India closely monitoring situation in Japan; Sets up Helplines

Government says it is closely monitoring the situation in Japan, in the aftermath of the powerful earthquake and Tsunami that struck the country on 11th of this month. An official release says all the Indians are reportedly safe. The Indian Embassy in Tokyo and the Consulate General of India , Osaka are in touch with Japanese authorities and representatives of the Indian community.

Helplines have been set up in Ministry of External Affairs, MEA, Indian Embassy in Tokyo and CGI Osaka. The MEA can be contacted on Telephone numbers- 2301 5300/2301 2113/2301 4104/2301 8179.

The Embassy of India, Tokyo can be contacted on telephone numbers - 0081332622391 to 97 and the Consulate General of India, Osaka Telephone, during office hours: + 81662617299. The Emergency contact can be made to Shri Piyush Gupta +819050553344. Help lines will be functional from 8 AM to 8 PM daily.
