Lahore, Mar 16: US national Raymond Davis has finally been indicted by a Pakistani court in the double murder case.
CIA contractor Davis was arrested by police after shooting dead 22-year-old Faizan Haider and 26-year-old Faheem Shamshad on January 27 in Lahore, allegedly in self-defence.
The court said that Davis would be given an opportunity to present evidence, Samaa TV reports.he double murder case hearing against Davis is underway at Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore.
The Davis detention issue seems to be taking its toll on US-Pak relations, which were already strained over stepped-up drone strikes in Pakistan's militant-infested tribal region and disagreements over the war in neighbouring Afghanistan.
Last month, US President Barack Obama publicly spoke on the US-Pak diplomatic row over Davis' detention in Lahore, insisting that Pakistan must recognize Davis as a diplomat and release him on the grounds of diplomatic immunity.
The Obama administration had also dispatched Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman John F. Kerry to Pakistan to try to "help tone down the rhetoric and reaffirm the US partnership with Pakistan,'' in the wake of the Davis detention issue.
However, the Pakistan Government has so far maintained that the case against Davis was sub-judice and that only the court should decide on this matter.
