Gangirala (Andhra Pradesh), Apr. 18 : Irate residents of Gangirala village in Andhra Pradesh's Chevella assembly constituency hurled eggs and tomatoes on Union Petroleum Minister S. Jaipal Reddy's vehicle on Sunday, as he refused to be drawn into making a comment on the future of a Telengana state.
Visiting his constituency after more than a year, Reddy, who spends most of his time in New Delhi, reportedly faced the brunt of the agitators, including Congress workers.
They did not allow him to enter the village and questioned him on his silence on their demand for a separate Telangana state.
Reddy and Andhra Pradesh Home Minister P Sabita Indra Reddy had gone to the village to attend a drinking water scheme meeting.
A television news report said that as their convoy entered the village, a large number of people, mostly youth belonging to the Telangana Joint Action Committee, stopped them and raised slogans like "Jai Telangana" and "Jaipal Reddy go back".
About 500 policemen stood around the ministers and prevented the agitators from attacking them. The police also took several people into custody.
Later, at the meeting, several people questioned him again on the Telengana issue. Jaipal and Sabita hurriedly concluded the meeting and left the village.
