Deepika Padukone all excited to play Rana’s love

Recently, when Team ‘Rana’ met the press, Deepika Padukone revealed that she had not even dreamt of acting with the Superstar of South Indian cinema when she was approached by KS Ravikumar to play Rajinikanth’s lady love in ‘Rana’. She told that its not a dream come true, as she had never dreamt of it and that she is super excited to make her debutant movie in Tamil opposite Superstar Rajinikanth.

While speaking to the press the actress also revealed that she has watched only ‘Robot’ by the superstar and was impressed by performance!

‘Rana’ is a period film set in the seventeenth century where Deepika plays a typical South-Indian beauty the lead role’s love. All her costumes for the flick have been designed by ace designer Neeta Lulla. Neeta Lulla had also designed costumes for Bollywood period films like ‘Devdas’ and ‘Jodhaa Akbar,’ incidentally, even those movies featured Aishwarya Rai in the lead role!

Deepika’s first ever appearance as a South-Indian damsel has only increased more expectations for the movie!

Ajith’s fans to Protest?

We had earlier told you that during his fortieth birthday, Ajith, dearly known as ‘Thala’ by all his fans, officially disbanded his fan clubs. Now looks like his fans are thoroughly disappointed and disturbed with this and are claiming that they will not be able to carry out the good deeds and social service that they used to through the fan club anymore.

Sources say that Ajith’s fans from Sivagangai are planning to meet the star in Chennai and request him to reconsider his decision in about 15 days time, and if the star fails to reconsider his decision, they will stage a protest in front of his residence in Chennai. Ajith is currently in Mumbai for the shooting of his forthcoming film ‘Mankatha.’

However, associates close to the star feel that he may not reconsider his decision. Whether ‘thala’s fans will accept their idol’s thoughts and support him thoroughly without a fans club, we’ll have to wait to know…

Expectations running high for ‘7am Arivu’

It looks like this is the best year for film buffs what with Kollywood churning out films and that too good ones with the most-wanted stars in the industry. The piece of information that we have here is sure going to please all the Suriya fans far and wide. The die-hard fans of this heartthrob for many women across South India are eagerly hanging on to every minute tidbit that leaks on ‘7am Arivu,’ Suriya’s next offing in the pipeline.

We informed you last month that A.R. Murugadoss has brought in a villain from Vietnam, Johnny, to lock horns with Suriya in ‘7am Arivu.’ It looks like the Tamil film industry will witness another sci-fi thriller after the magnanimity of ‘Robot’ with this film. The story of the film goes something like this: A foreigner comes to India. Along with him he brings a latest, state-of-the-art machine. Now this machine wrecks havoc to the characters of Suriya and Shruthi Haasan.

This is the one-liner of the film which is buzzing around Kollywood according to sources close to the film’s unit. But this one-liner is enough to feed the minds of Suriya fans across the world. Now the expectations are high, and since Suriya and Murugadoss are bonding with this film after their huge hit together, ‘Ghajini’ all eyes are on the actor-director pair for another hit.

We had also revealed that the director has promised that the film’s special effects will be on par with the ones seen in Hollywood because of technicians from there getting involved with this project. ‘7am Arivu’ also boasts off hair-raising stunt sequences between the protagonist and the antagonist.

Well will keep you updated with more interesting events on ‘7 Am Arivu!’

Ajith: Simple and sweet birthday

Happy with his latest announcement of disbanding all his fan clubs, Ajith celebrated his birthday in a silent way on Sunday, by spending the day with wife Shalini and daughter Anoushka.

“There were calls from fans to meet the Thala on his big day and to request him to reconsider the decision. But he was firm on it (dissolving fan clubs) and politely denied the requests,” sources say.

Meanwhile, most Ajith fans are happy with the decision, saying that their ‘Thala’ will now be celebrated by one and all and not by a particular section. “He is already liked by fans of other stars and many actors themselves are Thala fans,” they say.

As a birthday gift to Ajith, ‘Mankatha’ crew led by director Venkat Pabhu on Sunday midnight launched a song-trailer of the film on the net. “Since we were unable to release Mankatha audio on May 1, we decided to gift Ajith anna this teaser,” says Venkat Prabhu.

Venkat Prabhu’s take on ‘Mankatha’

Director Venkat Prabhu deserves a pat first for the ensemble he has gathered for his forthcoming film ‘Mankatha’ which sees Ajith as the protagonist. The film also sees Arjun, Trisha as Ajith’s heroine, Lakshmi Rai, Andrea and Anjali in supporting roles. We are well aware that this film marks the 50th film of ‘Thala’s stint in the silver screen. Venkat Prabhu recently revealed in an interview more interesting facts pertaining to ‘Mankatha.’

Before zeroing in on ‘Mankatha’ it looks like ‘thala’ went through three different stories which Venkat Prabhu had readied for the actor. We had earlier revealed to you that Ajith’s character, Vinayak Mahadevan, though the lead in the film, is portrayed as a character with grey shades. Ajith seems to have liked this character and gave his nod to Venkat, who was initially hesitant to make ‘Mankatha’ because of the negative shades of the protagonist.

IndiaGlitz released the first song byte of ‘Mankatha’ for Thala’s birthday and from the response we are getting for the song teaser it looks like Ajith was right in choosing this script! The hero has trimmed down for the film and his salt and peppery do, looks rocking! For all those ladies who were drooling over George Clooney, they will meet his desi version through this film! Kudos to Vasuki Basker, Venkat’s cousin, who is the stylist and costume designer for this film.

While the team was shooting in Dharavi it looks like Ajith sprained his leg and had to shoot with his cast on. Some people who witnessed the scene being shot mistook Ajith in the cast for a dual role and started spreading rumors that Ajith would appear in a double role in the film, revealed the director jokingly!

Venkat Prabhu also revealed that they had to shoot a long stunt sequence which would appear in the climax of the film. Arjun will be seen as a CBI officer, Prithvi who is on the look out for Vinayak. The film has as its background on the IPL matches with the camera zooming into gambling. The team feels that if all goes well ‘Mankatha’ might hit theatres in June!

We will get back to you shortly, with other interesting updates on ‘Mankatha’ and more!

Superman not American anymore?

He is the icon of the American way but Superman has sparked controversy by announcing plans to renounce his US citizenship in a twist in the Action Comics' 900th issue this week.

The superhero, who champions the truth, justice and the American way, decides to do away with his citizenship after being caught in the middle of a diplomatic row between Washington and Tehran.

In the upcoming story, Superman is slammed for making an appearance in Iran to support the country's rebel protests but it leaves him as an illegal alien, The New York Post reported.

The new twist is being called a radical departure for the character, best known for his iconic red, white and blue suit, first created in 1938 by Jerry Stiegel and Joe Shuster. "Truth, justice and the American way - it's not enough anymore. I intend to speak before the United Nations tomorrow and inform them that I am renouncing my US citizenship. I'm tired of having my actions construed as instruments of US policy. I've been thinking too small. I realize that now," Superman tells the president's National Security Advisor in the new issue.

Dheiva Thirumagan’s new name

Protests by members of a particular community have forced the makers of Vikram-starrer ‘Dheiva Thirumagan’ to change the title. As per the new announcement, the film will now be called as ‘Vikramanin Dheiva Thirumagal’.

In a statement, the Tamil Film Producers Council said, “Understanding the sentiments those who were hurt by the film’s title, producer Mogan Nadarajan has come forward to change it as Vikramanin Dheiva Thirumagal.”

On Saturday, about 30 members of Thevar Ilaignar Peravai were arrested when they staged a demonstration in front of the residence of demanding that the name of his latest film be changed.

Police said the members assembled in front of the Vikram's Thiruvanmiyur residence and staged the agitation. They were objecting to the title ‘Dheiva Thirumagan’, which they feel had hurt the sentiments of the Thevar community.

They claimed that freedom fighter Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar was called as Dheiva Thirumagan and demanded that the name of the movie be changed.

Akshay Kumar as ‘Rowdy Rathore’ in his next

The air in the glittering industry is turning ‘action’… These days, more and more filmmakers are turning to the genre since the time ‘Dabangg’ hit success. While Salman Khan is already ‘ready’ to show his ‘fighting’ styles, Ajay Devgn is preparing to show his rough-tough side in ‘Singham’. And latest our popular Action King Akshay Kumar has also joined the bandwagon.

When it comes to action, is he going to leave behind? Nai na… Therefore even Akki said to have signed an actioner. Titled ‘Rowdy Rathore’, interestingly the film will be produced by the ace filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and to be helmed by choreographer-director Prabhudeva. The film will be a hardcore action thriller where Akshay returns to action theme nearly after ten years, thanks to SLB.

The female lead will be played by Sonakshi Sinha, who again pairs up with Akki after ‘Joker’. The film will be co-produced by noted fashion designer Shabinaa Khan, who has worked with top stars. While for Shabinaa it’s her debut production, for Bhansali action is totally a new genre, as he is dealing with such rough subject for first time. "An action film is a totally alien concept for me. At this juncture as a filmmaker, I want to move out of the comfort zone and do things that are new and untried," said Bhansali to sources.

While Shabinaa stated, "Rowdy Rathore is an action-packed script and we felt that only Akshay could do complete justice to the role. He hasn't starred in an out-and-out action film for the last 10 years, so Rowdy Rathore will bring him back into his space like never before."

Sources revealed that for ‘Rowdy Rathore’ Akshay will undergo rigorous physical training for three months and also learn special kind of martial art, since the movie will have top notch action and choreography. Besides, the makers are planning to put together an international action team for the fight sequences, including an ace action director from the south.

Wow, this sounds to be really exciting and Akshay fans can really look forward to this one…. Right, folks?

Friday was a day of good and bad news in Kollywood. First came the launch news of Superstar Rajinikanth’s forthcoming venture ‘Rana’, and what followed were the details about his hospitalisation.

And hours before the Tamil cinema went into celebration mood to know that K Balachander has been selected for Dada Saheb Phalke award, Ajith gave a shock to everyone saying that he is going to dissolve his fan clubs.

Says ‘Attagasam’ P Shankar, an avid Ajith fan who works for a financial services company, “We are upset with the Thala’s decision. Some of the fans might have irked Ajith without obeying his instructions. But we are his loyal followers. He should reconsider the decision.”

We learn that Ajith fans from all over the world have been contacting his Narpani Iyakkam’s head office requesting the Thala to withdraw his announcement. “This is a shock to us when we are gearing up to celebrate his birthday,” they said.

Karunanidhi visits Rajini.Rajini hospitalised, discharged

Superstar Rajnikanth was admitted in the intensive care unit (ICU) of St Isabel Hospital in Chennai Friday after a bout of vomiting in the morning. He was discharged in the evening and there is nothing to worry about his health, doctors said.

The day started off fine. After finishing the first shot of ‘Rana’, which went to floors Friday, the top actor of Tamil cinema started feeling a little uncomfortable. After some time, he said that he was feeling very uneasy, following which he was rushed to the hospital.

Even as VVIPs and fans started enquiring about Rajini’s health, the Superstar’s wife Latha Rajnikanth said her husband is safe and there is nothing to worry. She said the actor ate something in the morning and started throwing up. “The doctors are attending to him and he is in safe hands,” she said.

“He was in the intensive care unit. We gave him fluid replacement and medicines for mild stomach infection. He is fit and fine,” said Dr C V Krishnaswamy, who attended on Rajini, allaying fears of millions of fans.

Within hours the news spread that Superstar Rajinikanth was not feeling well, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi rushed to the hospital where the matinee idol was admitted to and enquired about his health.

Accompanied by daughter and Rajya Sabha member Kanimozhi, the octogenarian came to the hospital on a wheel chair and met Rajini. He was received at the hospital’s entrance by Aishwarya Dhanush, older daughter of the Superstar.

Rajnikanth was discharged later in the evening. The numero uno actor of Tamil film industry had begun shooting for his period film ‘Rana' on Friday morning, but had an episode of vomiting.

'We're Just Good Friends?!'

Ouch. Not again. But yeah, whadya know… it happens with alarming regularity. Film journos have gotten used to it by now and know the real implications when the line is handed out by stars, who possibly imagine that pen pushers haven't figured out the real deal.

Year after year, stars who are thick in the midst of a romantic liaison/ swift fling/ one night stand/ casual sex/ whatever… have the sweet audacity to declare to the media that they're just "good friends."

Take this nice Ms. India title winner, a rage of her times (aha, no names) who was involved with an industrialist sort. As soon as news of their romance trickled out (thank God for "close sources", he he he) the actress concerned batted her mascara laden lashes to the scribe tribe and sounded out her relationship status: "We're just good friends."

Hmmmm, so did this yesteryear biggie whom I queried about this starlet he was promoting. She'd made a minor splash on television, but Mr. Alcoholic Superstar had higher plans for her on the big screen… and was possibly extracting a huuuuugggggeeeeeee pound of flesh from her for it too.
Though when I asked him pointedly about his link up with the actress, he shot me a filthy glance, made me feel like a cheapie and promptly insisted that… "We're just good friends."
My "highly placed sources", however, swore that the ageing icon and the newbie, the daughter of his old pal, were an "item" and that the oldie was surely sampling her flesh. Full throttle.

Er, remember… they're just "good friends."
A star couple who'd got married on Valentine's Day… and divorced much later too adopted the same recourse. So did this star, the daughter of a South Indian actress who'd bonded romantically with the hero of her debut movie. The flick tanked badly… and all plans of creating a buzz with him were put paid to. Oh yeaaaaa, when needled by Press sorts, she too didn't hesitate to assert that…"We're just good friends."
The new two of a grosser at the box office, reportedly had a quiet liaison which resulted in the actress losing out on her steady relationship of over five years. Though, she wouldn't be caught dead admitting to it. Not even if you threatened to put an AK 47 to her head and pull it. Her consistent reply in inter phews went… "We're just good friends."

Well, unfortunately, not everyone is cut out to display romantic boldness… unlike Hollywood hotties who make no bones about baring their links to the Fourth Estate. When a top Hollywood actress, braving a canny TV talk show hostess was asked directly, "Whose husband did you enjoy sleeping with the most?"… the response was swift in the offing. "Yours," blasted Ms. Star Diva (ha haaaaaaaaa)

Most B'Town beauties lack that kind of repartee. And if they do, never mind… coz' they won't be caught dead admitting to any of their amorous links on record to nosey parker scribes. Forget it, buddy.
Just recently, I was the recipient of this honour. Once again, that is. There I was… at a swanky five star hotel for a music launch event. I'd showed up much before time and got lucky.

A hotel waiter, an acquaintance of sorts, naughtily whispered to me that a top female star and her hero in the rom com they were filming, were cooped up in his room. And filled me on all the naughty, spicy details... till my ears turned red with those hot(ttttt) disclosures.

Scoop!!! All thrilled, I accosted the stars in the foyer. And when I posed the prickly question of the "relationship" between the duo… Ms. Actress looked at me as if I was a moron from Mars.

And then, with calculated ease, she giggled and reeled off her response… "We're just good friends."
Pass the cyanide, please…

Kamal to act in Traffic’s Remake?

‘Traffic’ was the first ever hit in 2011 in Malayalam. The movie recently celebrated its 111th day and Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Haasan graced the event as the Chief Guest. The event was held at the Gokulam Convention Centre in Ernakulam where Kamal Haasan and director Lal Jose distributed the mementos to the entire crew and artists of the movie.

The movie is a brilliant one and had received great reviews and much critical acclaim from allover! It revolves around the lives of three men who get to know each during a traffic jam. Mollywood audiences are surprised and overjoyed at how Kamal had displayed his enthusiasm in this subject, as 'Traffic' was not just a trendsetter in Mollywood but also a commercial hit.

Speaking on the occasion, the star said that he will be working with the same crew and cast except for Rahman, as Kamal would like to play the character played by Rahman in the original version of the movie. Rahman played the role of ‘Superstar Siddharth’ in the Malayalam movie. The movie will revolve around the journey in transporting a heart of a dying person to somebody who is in need of the heart transplantation in a nearby town.

Looks like fans can look forward to this movie earlier than Kamal’s next project with Selvaraghavan!
