New Delhi, Mar 15 : The Delhi High Court today directed the city government to go ahead with removal of illegal construction in the freedom fighters colony in South Delhi as the land belonged to Gaon Sabha and also is part of the ridge area.
The court directed the forest department to take back the posession of the land and remove encroachments from the ridge area following the Supreme Court order in 1996 to preserve the green areas in the city.
Dismissing petitions filed by the Freedom Fighters Welfare Association challenging the forest department''s notification for removal of the houses, Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw said "the petitions are dismissed. The respondents are directed to forthwith take possession of the land by removal of all encroachments / constructions thereon.
