New Delhi: Corporate lobbyist Nira Radia has claimed that Anil Ambani's Reliance Communications controlled Swan Telecom, which wasn't itself eligible for a 2G license because of a cross holding clause.
She also claimed Anil Ambani was close to former telecom minister A Raja, who is an accused in the 2G spectrum scam, and some journalists. Radia reportedly told the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) that Raja was wrong to favour Reliance Communications for dual technology usage.
Her confessions also show that Radia was close to Raja's personnal assistant RK Chandolia. She also claimed that Raja was not interested in the Telecom Ministry and that she never approached DMK MP Kanimozhi to make Raja the minister.
When asked about Raja's predecessor Dayanidhi Maran, Radia said she wasn't against him getting the telecom portfolio because he was against the Tatas
She also said she had discussed the Anil Ambani-Sunil Mittal issue with Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's son-in-law.
Radia also told the CBI that Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar may be controlling the controversial DB Realty. She claimed that Pawar may have had a hand in procuring 2G spectrum and the licence for Swan Telecom. But said she had no documentary proof to back up her allegation.
Nira Radia's company Vaishnavi issued a statement blaming rivals for circulating reports against her.
"Corporates with vested interests are circulating statements related to an ongoing trial, unverified transcripts, white papers and other documents with questionable authenticity. The whole exercise quite clearly is to divert attention from the real issues. For the record, it is stated that right context of conversation can be established only when the statement is looked at in totality," said Vaishnavi in the statement.
