Meerut, Apr 8 : Alleging that the crime rate in Uttar Pradesh has gone up under the BSP rule, BJP has demanded imposition of President''s rule in the state.
"The number of criminals has gone up during the regime of the BSP government in the state and the crime rate is on the rise," state BJP President Surya Pratap Shahi said here yesterday.
The increasing crime rate in the state will result in the defeat of Mayawati government in the next Assembly elections scheduled in 2012, he said.
Pointing out that the land-grabbing case in Noida was much bigger than the 2G spectrum scam, Shahi said, "The BJP will get it probed by the CBI once it comes to power in the state and chief minister Mayawati would be put behind bars."
He stressed on the the need to shut slaughterhouses in the state and also demanded that farmers be given a better price for their crops.
"We will also constitute a commission for the welfare of the fishermen community and give sand mining contracts to them for their uplift," Shahi said.
A ''Maha Sangram'' rally has been organised here tomorrow to highlight the shortcomings of the BSP-rule, he said.
BJP president Nitin Gadkari and other senior BJP leaders are expected to participate in the rally, Shahi added.
