Hewlett-Packard says PC unit not for sale

SEATTLE - Hewlett-Packard Co, the world's No. 1 personal computer maker, said on Thursday it was not planning to sell its core PC manufacturing business.

H-P's statement comes after a report by Taiwan's Commercial Times suggested the unit was to be put up for sale.

"Irresponsible reporting by Taiwan's Commercial Times, suggesting that HP might sell its PC business, should be dismissed as market rumor and speculation," H-P said in a statement.
