Post 'Players', there were four new films - 'Chaalis Chauraasi', 'Ghost', 'Sadda Adda' and 'Tutiya Dil' - that released in theatres and each of them has proven to be a box office disappointment. Let's take them one by one.
As stated last week, 'Ghost' wasn't really received well and the weekend collections were hardly encouraging. Yes, it did show some improvement over the weekdays by not really seeing further fall, hence accumulating a little over 5 crore in the bargain as the first week came to a close. Still, since the film is hardly in the running for the second week and city audience has pretty much given it a cold shoulder, there isn't much redemption round the corner.
'Chaalis Chauraasi' was an okay affair to begin with but could have seen better outcome had it arrived with much more fanfare and better release timing. Nevertheless, with a poor start not quite helping its cause, it too limped to the 2.5 crore mark. Despite an open week ahead, it can't really expect added moolah coming its way. The film would barely touch the 3 crore mark in the final run.
As for the other two releases of the week, even 1 crore would come at a bargain. If only the makers of 'Sadda Adda' would have shown some confidence in their product, it could have at least qualified as a marginally decent copy of 'Pyaar Ka Punchnama'. However audience can't be blamed if 'Sadda Adda' just failed to reach out to them. Expectedly there was a cold shoulder given which means the film couldn't show any improvement during the weekdays. As for 'Tutiya Dil', curtains fell down for the film on its very first day which means there wasn't any redemption round the corner.
With combined total of these four films barely touching the 10 crore total, it is good enough reflection of how Bollywood has suffered big time over the weeks gone by.
