Communists have no moral right to honour Netaji: Mamata

Kolkata, Jan 23 : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata BanerjeeMonday attacked the Left over Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, saying the communists who once had once questioned his nationalism lacked the moral right to honour him on his birth anniversary.
"They (Communist) had called him (Bose) Tojo's dog, Tojo's tout and now they are felicitating him. They have no moral right to do so. Nobody will now accept their felicitation," said Banerjee while speaking on the occasion of Bose' 115th birth anniversary celebration.
Ironically, Banerjee had, in the morning allowed the Left Front (LF) to garland Bose's statue first.
The LF had Saturday vowed to disregard a government fiat regarding the time allotted to it for garlanding the revolutionary's statue.
Forward Bloc leader Ashok Ghosh was the first to pay floral respects followed by LF chairman Biman Bose and other Left leaders. Banerjee and her cabinet colleagues came after them.
The undivided Communist Party of India had in 1942 denounced Bose as an "imperialist agent" and "Tojo's dog" (referring to Hideki Tojo, the Japanese Prime Minister during World War II), after Bose took help of the then Imperial Japan in his bid to liberate India.
However, the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) later on admitted their "mistake" and declared him a patriot.
