Kolkata, Jan 12 : Bengal Governor M K Narayanan has said thatstrict action should be taken against student hooliganism in the state.
Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, Narayanan said that hooliganism against teachers and principals cannot be allowed as they play an important role in the society.
"I think we need to take very strong action. I think teachers, principals and others are very important people in our lives, and if students are taking to rowdy habits then I think they should be dealt with strongly. I firmly believe in it," he added.
He also said that he had met a delegation of teachers over the issue and promised them that strong action would be against those who are involved in such activities.
"They brought to my notice about the incidents and I promise you we will take actions. As the Governor I have one role. If I was the executive head, I would have done something else," added Narayanan.
West Bengal has recently seen several incidents of student violence where teachers and principals of various institutions have been roughed up by students over trivial issues.
