Ahmedabad, May 3 : Gujarat Congress today criticised Chief Minister Narendra Modi for not implementing the Right to Education Act (RTE) in the state.
"Many states have introduced Right to Education law in the last two years. However, Gujarat Chief Minister, who claims to be Number one administrator, has not introduced this student-friendly law so far," Leader of Opposition and Congress member Shaktisinh Gohil said here.
This has caused a great loss to the students of Gujarat, he said.
Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, enacted by the Centre, states that no school can take any donation or capitation fee or interview while giving admission to a student, Gohil said.
"Despite this clear provision the Gujarat Government has introduced rules which allow school managements to mint money while giving admission to students."
He pointed out that as per government resolution (GR) of the HRD Ministry, schools will have to give admission through a transparent system. The
GR is very clear that no donation or any kind of interview can be taken.
However, the GR issued by the Gujarat Government on March 7, 2011 says that schools can give admission on first come first get basis or they can go for the draw system, Gohil maintained.
He alleged that schools in Gujarat are taking donations due to the GR issued by the State Government.
The Gujarat Government''s GR should be withdrawn immediately, the Congress leader demanded.
